Holding Space for Your profound Stories
I’m here for you...Your birth journey will change you, rock you, and change you at your core.
Imagine every part of it documented and feeling supported through every wave or change of plans. Having someone there holding space for your feelings and for your fleeting memories. A photographer moving through the space with tenderness and intentionality. A scribe there to hold mental space and preserve the fleeting moments of your story.
What if I told you that you could have both in me...
What photoscribe Means to me?
As a photo-scribe I enter your birth space quietly and with stillness. Observing and reading the room before I ever pick up my camera for the first shot. I ask God to encounter my speech, hands, heart and vision in your birth space so that I may show up as a calm presence and addition to your birth team throughout the unfolding of your story. As a witness to your birth story I not only capture the moment I make space for you to put words to those moments.
My focus is to document your birth space capturing emotion and the small details unique to your story while also aiming to capture the moments you express hoping to look back on discussed in our initial consultation. Birth can be unpredictable, being your photo-scribe means to see you wholistically beyond still images helping to put a meaningful story into your hands that not only adds to your memories but to your families legacy.
Meet natalie
*record scratch* yep, that’s me you’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.
Storytelling for me started as early as the 5th grade in Detroit Public Schools. Journaling, poetry, class skits, and I can’t forget to mention my vintage 1990s Talkgirl cassette player and recorder and a pocket sized digital camera. You’ve guessed it. Everything that would prepare me for nursing school. I know right! I spent a great deal of my young adult years as a caregiver pursuing nursing, changing my mind eventually landed myself a bachelors and masters in social work on the path to community, advocacy, and policy work. But a light bulb turned on the day I sat in on a seminar on Wayne State University’s campus discussing black maternal health. Intrigued, I went down the rabbit hole. Finally putting language to some of the things I witnessed during my sister’s pregnancy.
The only birth I had ever encountered prior to that day was the birth of my 1st nephew in 2017. I decided to document the birth for my sister and later learned that birth photography was a genre. That’s right, I got here by accident. In 2021, I redirected my worship back to Christ and my second nephew was born in 2022. I realized I found my thing. Nothing was wasted, the stage was simply being set for me to do such work as this.
When I’m not photographing birth or writing stories I am spending time with family or my faith communities, chasing my nephews around like the camera man on Maury, or simply finding productivity in my rest and wellness activities.
My promise to you...
